At the Heritage Foundation of Williamson County, TN, we believe that education is not merely a process of teaching and learning but a vital bridge that connects the past with the future. Under the leadership of Rebekah Rush, our Director of Education, the education team is committed to providing dynamic programming and curriculum resources that inspire students and support educators in Williamson County and beyond.

Our New Educational Resources & Programming

We are excited to announce the launch of our K-12 Educational Resources & Programming page on our website. This new platform marks a significant step in our mission to enhance educational opportunities related to historic preservation and local history. Our extensive range of resources and programming is designed to make preservation and history accessible and engaging for students, educators, and families.

The Mission Behind Our Education Department

Rebekah Rush’s mission is clear: to connect the children of yesterday with the children of today and cultivate the next generation of curious historians and thoughtful preservationists. This mission is pursued through a variety of initiatives aimed at making history and preservation meaningful and relevant.

Our Approach

Supporting Local Educators: We partner with local educators to support and enrich their teaching efforts. Providing professional development and resources, we help teachers integrate history and preservation into their classrooms effectively.

Creating Online Resources: Our online resources are designed to make local history and preservation tangible for homeschool students, teachers, and parents. These resources offer flexible and interactive ways to engage with Williamson County’s past.

Unique Programming: We offer specialized field trips and in-house programming at our new Franklin Grove Estate and Gardens site. These experiences provide hands-on learning opportunities that bring history to life for students.

Lifelong Learning: In collaboration with our preservation department, we create engaging and meaningful “lifelong learning” opportunities for all ages. Our goal is to foster a continued appreciation and understanding of history throughout a person’s life.

Upcoming Initiatives

We are also excited about several initiatives in the planning stages:

  • A Tennessee elective course that will delve into local history and preservation.
  • High school and middle school book clubs that encourage reading and discussion of historical texts.
  • Temporary exhibit competitions that allow students to engage creatively with historical topics.
  • Collaborations with Social Studies Honor Societies to enhance historical education.
  • Opportunities for educators to access primary resources, guest speakers, and re-enactors to enrich their teaching.

The Importance of Education in Preservation

Education is the cornerstone of historic preservation. By engaging students and educators with our rich history and preservation efforts, we ensure that the stories and lessons of the past are carried forward. Our programs foster a deeper understanding of history, encourage critical thinking, and instill a sense of stewardship for our cultural heritage.

At the Heritage Foundation of Williamson County, our commitment to education reflects our belief in the power of connecting past and present. Through innovative programs, dedicated support, and collaborative efforts, we aim to inspire a new generation of historians and preservationists who will continue to value and protect our shared history.

Join us in this exciting journey as we work to connect the children of yesterday with the children of today and cultivate a future where history and preservation thrive.
