Love is in the air.

Valentine’s Day is ALMOST here and at the Heritage Foundation we are celebrating our love for the beautiful buildings and green spaces that make Williamson County feel like home to residents and visitors alike. To show that love, we’re taking a page from the National Trust for Historic Preservation and showing our love with a heart bomb.

What is a heart bomb?

Five years ago, Bernice Radle, of Buffalo’s Young Preservationists, and thirty friends and volunteers placed hearts on four vacant buildings and heart bombing was born.

This brought some much needed TLC and attention to these places. The National Trust for Historic Preservation reports that “Today, three of those buildings are still standing and two have new owners — a testament to the power of showing places (and their communities) that someone cares about them.”

A heart bomb happens when you send:

“love letters to historic places that appear at historic sites nationwide, on local landmarks, and around places both safe and threatened…. Heart bombing is the act of showering an older or historic place with tangible expressions of affection and devotion—preferably with lots of other place-lovers in tow.”

LOVE IT!

What place around town is special to you? Is there a:

• home that takes your breath away every time you walk past?
• restaurant downtown where you each said “I love you!” for the first time?
• park that has your favorite family picnic spot?
• space that just makes you thankful to live here?

Then, tell us! We want to hear from you about the places that make our community so special.

Ready to commit to a spot? Then go for it! Make a grand gesture and create a Valentine for your special some-place.

• Show your love in a BIG way with a large cardboard heart-shaped card.
• Create signs with friends to make a BIGGER impact.
• Make the BIGGEST banner you can with family & write what makes the space meaningful to each of you.

Just remember – DO NO HARM. Leave these cherished spaces in the condition you found them in. Don’t make any permanent adjustments to historic structures or outdoor space.
