Historic Preservation Boot Camp Presented by MT
March 4 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

The work of historic preservation is never “done.” Have you ever wanted to know more about historic preservation or how to advocate for a threatened place? Then our Preservation Boot Camp is the place to start! Like the old proverb says, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” At the Heritage Foundation, we know it often takes many people to advocate and build support for preservation, whether it’s a landscape, a building, a street, or a neighborhood. As older and historic places throughout Williamson County are quickly changing, people continually ask what they can do to help and how to get involved. Many have a shared goal of wanting to ensure the architectural and cultural fabric of our historic places and spaces are preserved, even as change still occurs, through sharing stories of our collective history or the documentation and preservation of our cemeteries.
Our inaugural Preservation Boot Camp is designed as a half-day workshop, where we will take a deep dive into preservation, history, and advocacy. Once completed,
You Will Be Able To…
- Fully understand and define what is historic preservation and why we preserve.
- Recognize architectural styles, identification, and documentation.
- Understanding historic preservation overlay, local historic districts, the National Register of Historic Places, and power of local preservation.
- How we can go beyond the buildings to save our stories, including our cemeteries.
- Interact with case examples in well-executed and managed historic preservation advocacy locally.
Through Preservation Boot Camp, our goal is to connect and cultivate effective community preservation advocates. We are excited to see all of you at our inaugural Preservation Boot Camp and the places, spaces, and stories we all will advocate for in our county. Please join us on Saturday, March 4, 2023, from 9 am to 12 pm at the Old, Old Jail. Space is limited. Registration is required.
