Reid Anderson was 7 years old the first time he remembers volunteering with the Heritage Foundation. That year, his parents chaired the Heritage Ball and the theme was Flamingos! Reid remembers placing pink flamingos all around the lawn at Carnton. Danny recalls the same ball. His memories focus on the heavy, early morning rains that caused the tent to collapse the morning of the big event! These days, Danny chuckles when he recalls that story, along with the time when the horse got loose in the ball tent while everyone was busy decorating.

The Flamingo Ball was one of four balls chaired, or co-chaired, by Danny and Teresa Anderson. However, designing and fundraising for the longest running black-tie gala in Williamson County, is just one of many ways that the Andersons have served the Heritage Foundation. Danny has also generously given of his time on the board. In Danny’s words, “the privilege of serving as President, Past President and on the Board of Directors off and on for 20 years has been one of the true joys of my life – an experience I will treasure forever.”

Service is a way of life with the Andersons. Reid’s volunteer work didn’t end the day he decorated the Carnton lawn with pink flamingos. Danny recalls he and Teresa involving young Reid in many Foundation projects (sometimes when Reid was less than enthusiastic about it). As Danny puts it, “I encouraged Reid to be a servant of our community and respect the beauty and history of the place we so love.”

Both Father and Son agree that one of their most cherished memories is the 2008 Heritage Ball, the only white tie ball to date, which was chaired by the whole family. Reid recalls, “Tossing around so many ideas, working together and seeing them come to fruition was such a joy!”

Reid is definitely embracing the family tradition of service to the community and preservation in particular.   He has served on the board of directors for Next Gen as well as the Historic Carnton Plantation Board of Directors.

After so many projects and so many balls, it seems appropriate that Reid met his wife, Cameron, for the first time at a Heritage Ball. Reid and Cameron have recently renovated an older home in Downtown Franklin and are poised to continue the family tradition of serving the community. In Reid’s words, “I will always keep my family involved in the Heritage Foundation!”
